چکیده

Canonical forms of Markovian distributions and processes provide an efficient way of describing these structures by eliminating the redundancy of general representations. Canonical forms of order 2 stationary Markov arrival processes (MAPs) have already been established for both continuous and discrete time. In this paper we present canonical form of continuous time non-stationary MAPs of order 2. We also investigate the relation of the order 2 stationary Markov arrival processes and rational arrival processes. It turns out that the irreducibility of the underlying Markov chain has important qualitative consequences.

Canonical Representation of Discrete Order 2 MAP and RAP

Matrix-geometric distributions (MG) and discrete (time) rational arrival processes (DRAP) are natural extensions of discrete phasetype distributions (DPH) and discrete Markov arrival processes (DMAP) respectively. However, the exact relation of the Markovian classes and their non-Markovian counterparts and the boundaries of these classes are not known yet. It has been shown that for the order t...

A Markovian canonical form of second-order matrix-exponential processes

Besides the fact that – by definition – matrix-exponential processes (MEPs) are more general than Markovian arrival processes (MAPs), only very little is known about the precise relationship of these processes in matrix notation. For the first time, this paper proves the persistent conjecture that – in two dimensions – the respective sets, MAP(2) and MEP(2), are indeed identical with respect to...

Canonical representation of order 2 transient Markov and rational arrival processes

Similar to other processes that are modulated by background Markov chains the matrix representation of a transient Markov arrival process is not unique and the use of a convenient unique canonical form is essential for practical computations. The paper presents a set of 5 Markovian forms which provide a unique and minimal representation for all members of the TMAP(2) class. In the course of the...

Probability in the Engineering and Informational Sciences

Motivated by non-Poisson stochastic variability found in service system arrival data, we extend established service system staffing algorithms using the square-root staffing formula to allow for non-Poisson arrival processes. We develop a general model of the non-Poisson non-stationary arrival process that includes as a special case the non-stationary Cox process (a modification of a Poisson pr...

Second Moment of Queue Size with Stationary Arrival Processes and Arbitrary Queue Discipline

In this paper we consider a queuing system in which the service times of customers are independent and identically distributed random variables, the arrival process is stationary and has the property of orderliness, and the queue discipline is arbitrary. For this queuing system we obtain the steady state second moment of the queue size in terms of the stationary waiting time distribution of a s...
